Linux systems tend to be more out-of-the-box these days, but when things go wrong (and they often do) fixing them can be either a PITA or just plain impossible. There is some help in easing the FreeBSD learning curve. For example, version 4.11 is bundled with either GNOME or KDE<a HREF="ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/alpha/ISO-IMAGES/4.11/" rel="nofollow">[1]</A>, and the instant-workstation<a HREF="http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/ports.cgi?query=instant-workstation&#38;stype=all&#38;release=5-STABLE%2Fi386" rel="nofollow">[2]</A> port will get you setup with GNOME and KDE in no time flat.
